Ill never forget that spring day, the first time the sound of the Rubab captivated me. It was around six in the morning when i felt myself coming of my sleep. At that twilight I heard a melody of that flowed in from and open window in the room. It was scintillating. It awakened my spirit and sparked my interest and passion for many years to come Young and talented Homayoun Sakhi is a composer, vocalist, and musician born into a family steeped in musical tradition. His father Ghulam Sakhi, a notable Rubab nawaz (player) was thought by Ustad (master, teacher) Muhammed Omar, who was also his Aunts husband. Music has been my true love, Sakhi says, and our ustads have been my inspirations. Since the onset of his career Sakhi strived to maintain a link with his heritage by bridging the classical with the new. By learning from the old school masters and contributing to the development of modern styles of Afghan music. Sakhi has struck a chord with old and young alike.
