Ghazi High School - Dari
The newly constructed Ghazi High School in Kabul, Afghanistan was inaugurated on October 23, 2011, by both Afghan and US government officials, including HE Minister of Education Ghulam Farooq Wardak and US Deputy Ambassador James B. Cunningham. Funded through USAID's Kabul Schools Program, 5400 students will be able to study in the rebuilt school. The Ghazi High School was established as a "Lycée" in 1926 and from the beginning, had instruction in English. After it was almost completely destroyed by decades of war, USAID began working with the Ministry of Education to rebuild the school. Construction for the 8200 square meter three-story school began in 2007 and includes buildings with 72 classrooms, an enclosed link way that connects the classroom blocks, and ramps for wheelchair access. The school was designed and constructed to international seismic safety standards to prevent damage from earthquakes.

DARI - PASHTU STARTalk Summer Program at SDSU, Instructional Video
The summer 2011 Dari-Pashtu program is open to elementary, middle, high school students of both Dari-Pashtu heritage and non-heritage backgrounds. Our program follows the National Standards for Foreign Language and focuses on communicative skills development. Students from novice low to intermediate high will focus on listening and speaking skills at appropriate levels of linguistic development, and reading and writing skills. Using authentic materials, students will develop an appreciation of Dari-Pashtu culture and engage in a wide range of learning activities including songs, games, visual and performing arts. While performing these activities, students will, increase vocabulary, and develop speaking skills required for more formal discussions and tasks. Our Dari-Pashtu faculty have gather authentic video and still photographs, collected on-line videos in the language, collected authentic games and on the Internet. Students will have access to a Moodle site where they can review instructional materials, submit their work, and explore topics more deeply. Through an agreement with several local school districts, students will be able to apply their hours of study towards required seat time for earning course equivalency credits listed on their transcripts.

www.mahonianadari.org Mahonia Na Dari (MND) means "Guardian of the Sea" in the local Bakovi language of the Talasea Peninsula in West New Britain Province (WNBP), Papua New Guinea. Mahonia Na Dari started in 1997, through co-operative effort between The Nature Conservancy, the European Union Islands Regional Environmental Program and Walindi Plantation Resort. Mahonia Na Dari operates from the Walindi Nature Centre. It was formed to provide Marine Environment Education Program (MEEP) to the local population in West New Britain Province and the New Guinea Islands region. Its mission is to understand and conserve the natural environments of Kimbe Bay and Papua New Guinea (PNG) for the benefit of present and future generations. This has been and continues to be achieved by supporting local resource management initiatives now and during the last 10 years. Since the inception of the organization in 1998, MND has reached out to more than 150000 students and teachers, local communities and other organizations who are interested in marine education. In the national arena, MND is a leading advocate for marine conservation with strengths in marine education and awareness. It facilitates marine research and an increased understanding of the marine environment. These programs have promoted the protection of PNG's abundant biodiversity by promoting sustainable use of marine resources by the community. Afghanistan Centre at Kabul University: Building a school library
Rebuilding Afghanistan, One Book at a Time. ACKU is the largest repository of information about Afghanistan. A brainchild of Louis and Nancy Hatch Dupree, Americans who had worked and lived in Afghanistan since the early 1960's, the center houses over 45000 books, periodicals and other digital information. On this day Nancy leads the ACKU to a school one hour from Kabul center. It is the first time the school of 8000 students will have a library.
