Hailing from a family of artistes, his elder brother Inayat Ali Khan, also a great singer, was his ustaad. Keeping the family tradition alive, his son Imran Shaukat Ali has also gained name and fame in the recent past. Apart from ghazals, the famous Punjabi folk song of Shaukat Ali is: "challa and kadi te hass kebol ve naan saadi jind rol ve". Among ghazals, "jab bahaar aae to sehra ki tarf chal nikla", is on the lips of every Pakistani and Indians. Recalling his first meeting with Mohammad Rafi in 1979 in London he said, "I was surprised to hear my cassette in the car stereo of Rafi sahib. It was a great honor for me. He is especially renowned as the writer of a book of poetry called Saif Ul Malook. His works include: Siharfi, Sohni Mahival, Tuhfah-e Miran, Tuhfah-e Rasuliyah, Shirin Farhad, Mirza Sahiban, Sakhi Khavass Khan, Shah Mansur, Gulzar-e Faqir, Hidayatul Muslimin, Panj Ganj, Masnavi-e Nirang-e Ishq. He also wrote a commentary on the Arabic Qasidat-ul-Burda of Al-Busiri and his most famous work, entitled Safar-Ul Ishq (The Journey of Ardent Love) and better known as Saif Ul Malook is presented here, read by the legendary Shaukat Ali.

Shaukat Ali live on atv morning show. Shaukat Ali was born in Malikwal, Punjab into a family of musicians. He received his musical training from his elder brother, Enayat Ali. He sang for the first time onstage when he was a student at Government College, Lahore. He began his career as a professional singer by participating in radio programmes. Gradually, he became popular among the people of Punjab. He is well-known for his high-pitched renditions of folk and national songs. He is also a poet who has written the lyrics to a number of his songs. Both urban and rural dwellers alike appreciate his tappas and his dastans of Mirza Sahiban, Saif-ul-Maluk and Heer Ranjha for their emotional depth. He also sings ghazals (a light classical form) with equal ease. When television was introduced, Shaukat Ali quickly became popular. He has travelled widely as a cultural ambassador of Pakistan and received numerous awards.

Saif-ul-Malook Shaukat Ali (1826-1907)
Saif-ul-Malook The love romance, saif-ul-Malook of mian mohammad Bakhsh (1826-1907) was composed by the poet when he was 36. and the year was 1862. It is a love romance with a significant difference. The poem is overlapped by many layers of romance material, yet the underlying structure is simple and allegoricle. It possesses sufic content too, but even that is formed by the serioisness of its allegorical intention.
