Pakistan tells NATO to leave air base
The American commander of NATO forces in Afghanistan says he will investigate what Pakistan has called a deliberate assault on its border. NATO aircraft killed more than two dozen Pakistani soldiers on Saturday. The alleged attack comes as the latest source of tension in a difficult year for Pakistan-US. relations following the US air raid into the Pakistani military town of Abottabad to kill Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. Pakistan responded by closing a supply route to NATO's Afghanistan mission, and ordered the US to leave an airbase. Al Jazeera's Rosiland Jordan reports from Washington.

I have defeated them. By Afghan standards, security in his region has drastically improved along with an impressive fall in drugs production. Its hard to argue that hes been anything but a success enthuse US counter-narcotics officials. However, his past is less than pristine. An expert on the region says: To be an effective leader there, at some point you had to have been involved in the commission of atrocities, together with the accumulation of enormous wealth and that means Opium.' Sherzai allegedly got wealthy during his time as governor of Kandahar taking a cut from the opium profits from the area. While his former associate has been serving a life-sentence in the US, hes been enjoying a high-profile collaboration with Washington. Why? 'US seeks to stay forever in Afghanistan'
The US seeks to continue the Afghan war into a "perpetual state of low intensity guerilla conflict", preventing the country to rebuild its infrastructure, says a prominent political analyst. Afghan President Hamid Karzai has called for an investigation into what is described as the biggest coordinated Taliban attacks this year. Karzai says intelligence failures on the part of US-led forces allowed the militants to sneak into the most secure neighborhoods. The weekend assault in the capital Kabul and elsewhere left over 50 people--including four civilians and 11 Afghan soldiers --dead. Washington has dismissed Karzai's claim, saying the attacks were likely carried out by the Pakistan-based Haqqani network. This comes weeks ahead of the NATO summit in Chicago, where Karzai is expected to ink a strategic pact with the US. Meanwhile, the US is reportedly gearing up for a major offensive in the war-torn nation. Reports say the US-led spring offensive will be in the regions that control the main access routes into Kabul. Policy chaos, military muscle: Why US will never win Afghan war
