Kathy Kelly on Afghan Humanitarian Crisis, Civilian Casualties and Drone Warfare
democracynow.org - The anger provoked by the US soldier's attack on 16 Afghan civilians comes amidst outrage over civilian deaths from US drone strikes and a growing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. Hundreds of Afghan children die daily from hunger even as the United States spends some $2 billion a month on maintaining its occupation. We speak with Kathy Kelly, co-coordinator of Voices for Creative Nonviolence, who has just returned from Afghanistan to stand trial for her role in a protest at a US base over the use of drones. "When is the United States going to understand the rage and antagonism felt by civilians who borne [sic] year after year after year of attacks — unprovoked and uncaused attacks against civilians — as the United States has used its occupation to try to dictate the future of people in Afghanistan?" Kelly asks. The 3268 casualties mark a 31 per cent increase over the same period in 2009, the report said. The UN said that the Taliban was responsible for around 76 per cent of those casualties. Rethink Afghanistan War (Part 4): Civilian Casualties
Digg this video: digg.com When foreign policy is well-reasoned, we see attention given to humanitarian issues like housing, jobs, health care and education. When that policy consists of applying a military solution to a political problem, however, we see death, destruction, and suffering. Director Robert Greenwald witnessed the latter during his recent trip to Afghanistan--the devastating consequences of US airstrikes on thousands of innocent civilians. The footage you are about to see is poignant, heart-wrenching, and often a direct result of US foreign policy. We must help the refugees whose lives have been shattered by US foreign policy and military attacks. 7 US soldiers killed by Afghanistan's soldiers - No outrage from the WH? Just obfuscations?
A Video tribute to seven US soldiers [heros] who were gunned down in recent weeks by a cadre of cold-blooded, ruthless Afghan soldiers. The deceased US soldiers are Jordan Bear, Joshua Born, TJ Conrad, Edward Dycus, Payton Jones, John D. Loftis and Robert Marchanti. The video also covers some of the pertinent and eye-opening information discussed below, and offers us a little bit of insight into the politically calculated and apathetic mindset of our current administration. Six US soldiers were killed [gunned down in cold blood] by Afghan soldiers [and other Afghan officials] in the wake of the accidental burning of Korans that took place [recently]at a US military base in Afghanistan. A seventh US soldier [Edward Dycus] was killed by an Afghan soldier shortly prior to the Koran-burning incident. And yet, while the investigation into the recent killing of Afghan civilians by a US soldier has been discussed at length by President Obama and his administration - including a discussion by Defense Secretary Leon Panetta about a possible death sentence for the aforementioned US soldier - we've heard very little from this administration about the investigations into the cold-blooded murder of our soldiers by Afghan soldiers; and, no mention of death sentences for the Afghan murderers. Moreover, we've heard a great deal of outrage from Afghan President, Hamid Karzai, about the Afghan casualties, but we haven't heard much outrage from our own administration about the killing of ...

Afghan Anger: 'UN cop-out as NATO reaches bloody high'
Afghanistan's President Hamid Karzai has accused NATO of killing eight children in an air strike on the country's territory. The incident adds to the already strained relationship between Afghanistan and its Western allies. Last week the United Nations released a report stating there had been a rise in civilian casualties in Afghanistan from 2790 in 2010 to 3021 in 2011. It noted that most deaths were caused by insurgents. Gareth Porter, investigative journalist and historian talks to RT, claiming the UN is not doing a responsible job tracking the civilian casualties that are the result of night raids by US special operations forces. Allen Roland: US illegally occupies Afghanistan
The rising number of casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the US and members of the Western military alliance of NATO, undermining public support for the US-led war. As anti-American sentiment is growing among Afghans, the US and Afghanistan government have agreed on a draft for a strategic partnership deal. The accord, which has not been made public, outlines the US role in the country for a decade after 2014, when most foreign combat forces are expected to leave. Press TV has conducted an interview with Allen Roland, online columnist, to further discuss the issue.
