What's 9/11? Afghans never heard of NYC terror
Images from 9/11 are still chilling, even 10 years after the attacks shook the world. They triggered the so-called war on terror. But in the country that's been at the forefront of that war, it can be hard to find people who remember why foreign troops arrived in the first place. We continue our special coverage of the 9/11 anniversary, with this report from Afghanistan. RT on Twitter: twitter.com RT on Facebook: www.facebook.com

Rogue US soldier slays 16 Afghans
As if Koran burning wasn't enough, over the weekend an American soldier went on a shooting rampage killing 16 innocent Afghans including women and children. According to reports, the carnage took place in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan early Sunday morning where the unnamed soldier broke into three homes killing the inhabitants and later setting the bodies on fire. The US Army Staff Sergeant later turned himself in and President Obama has issued an apology for the incident. Afghans set for combat operation switch 22.05.12
NATO leaders in Chicago have agreed combat operations in Afghanistan should be handed over to local forces by the middle of next year. It will be "the moment when throughout Afghanistan people can look out and see their own troops and police stepping up to the challenge", said NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen. The agreement is seen as a milestone in the country's future, with NATO leaders united in their long-term support. That means a commitment in terms of training, advising and assisting Afghan security forces. NATO has agreed to form a new mission to deliver this from 2014. But the other part of the commitment is money to pay for Afghanistan's security forces to continue keeping the country safe when they go-it-alone. Not all that money has been committed yet, although other nations have now joined the likes of Britain and America in pledging funds. While future financing remains a work in progress, so to do negotiations to end Pakistan's closure of NATO supply routes, imposed after a US air strike. Failure to resolve the issue impacts on current operations and on the drawdown, making it much harder and more expensive. Hopes that the presence of Pakistan's President would herald a breakthrough seem to have been dashed, with relations between Mr Zardawi and Barack Obama remaining frosty. NATO leaders have been careful to acknowledge the hard and dangerous work in Afghanistan will go on for the next two-and-a-half years in a mission which they believe ...

Afghans sceptical of Bonn conference
Leaders from more than 90 countries have met at a conference in Bonn, Germany to discuss the conflict in Afghanistan and a planned military pullout and transition to Afghan control by 2014. However, with both the Taliban and Pakistan, Afghanistan's influential neighbour, boycotting the conference, it remains unclear what the discussions will achieve. Al Jazeera's Jennifer Glasse reports from Kabul on how Afghans view the conference.

Taliban peace talks end after Afghan massacre
After nearly a decade, winning the hearts and minds of the Afghan people has been set back quite a bit. Sixteen innocent Afghans were killed by a US soldier in the Kandahar province earlier this week. According to American officials an US Army staff sergeant acted alone, but one man's actions have caused uproar in the war torn country and the Taliban has canceled all peace talks. Many eyewitnesses tell a conflicting story on the massacre claiming more were involved. Jake Diliberto, RT blogger and veteran, joins us with his take on the backlash of the tragic occurrence. A pioneering driving school in Herat is giving Afghan women a chance to learn to drive in a safe environment. In Afghanistan's highly conservative society, motoring is generally disapproved of as it's something that takes the woman out of the home. But these women say it helps them better provide for their families.

Inside The Kandahar Massacre; Grieving Survivors Describe Afghan Mass Murder
March 28, 2012 SBS "Dateline" received unprecedented access to the survivors and investigation of the Kandahar village massacre by US forces. Grieving survivors describe Afghan massacre; US military war crimes & Genocide against Pashtuns in Afghanistan Reporter Yalda Hakim of Australia's SBS network has become the first western journalist to visit the villages where a US soldier allegedly killed 17 people. In a remarkable report she talks with some of the survivors and some Afghan guards on duty at the military camp from where Staff Sergeant Robert Bales left on his alleged killing spree. The video at the top of this story is Hakim's account of her journey to the remote villages near Kandahar and what she was told. Bales is now held at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas and has been charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder. The events of that March night in a rural area some 20 kilometers from Kandahar are being investigated by both the US military and Afghan authorities. But much remains unknown. Many Afghans, including some of the survivors that night, believe more than one US soldier was present in the two villages where the killings took place. Others speak of seeing a single American soldier leaving Camp Belambai that night The US military says there is no evidence that more than one man was involved in the shootings. Bales has not entered a plea. The killings made headlines around the world but at times it seemed the victims were quickly forgotten. Here CNN ...

Obama's apology isn't enough for Afghans
Protests in Afghanistan today grew more violent and more bloody as anger and distrust for Americans . The protests are in response to the Korans burnt by US Marines last week. Shortly after that incident, a member of the Afghan military shot dead two American soldiers and later there have been a number of apologies issued. President Obama apologized for the religious materials that have been "unintentionally mishandled at Bagram airbase." Many Afghans though state the apology is not enough. Jake Diliberto, a former US marine and RT blogger, says the Pentagon is missing on training the troops cultural specifics before sending them overseas. He also compared the Koran burning act with what the Nazis did during the WWII in his talk with RT's Kristine Frazao. Like us and/or follow us: twitter.com www.facebook.com

Veterans have come forth denouncing the actions of the troops, but on the contrary, many Americans have backed the actions of peeing on the dead. Even members of the media have supported the troops' malevolent actions. Dana Loesch, a CNN contributor, has gone public saying she would join the troops to pee on the dead Afghans. Christopher Chambers, journalism professor at Georgetown University, joins us to analyze whether or not the members of the media are out of line. Follow Kristine on Twitter at twitter.com
