Javed: UK Viceroy's Analysis of India
Javed Chaudhry - host of Kal Tak program in Pakistan - describes the assessment of India by the acclaimed Lord Ripon, Governor General and Viceroy of India during 1880-1884. According to Lord Ripon, the fundamental weakness of Indians was lack of unity, and this weakness - despite India's tremendous strengths in resources and manpower compared to Europeans - prevented her from escaping colonialism and poverty. As per Javed, Lord Ripon's advice is fully applicable to modern-day Pakistan; the country suffers from an acute case of disunity and has virtually no chance of progress until it fosters unity among its disparate people.
