Kurds divided by Syrian uprising
For centuries, the towns of Turkish Nusaybin and Syrian Qamishli were one, until politics put a border between them. The governments of both countries have been hard on rebellious Kurdish minorities in the region. Now, with the uprising in Syria, many Kurds see the potential for major political gains. While some want to play a greater role in the opposition, others believe Kurdish interests are best served by working with the Syrian government. Al Jazeera's Anita McNaught reports from Nusaybin in southeast Turkey.

Oil row with Kurds stirs Iraq tensions
Iraq's Kurdish government has stopped all oil exports to Baghdad following a payment dispute. It is just one issue in the past weeks that is causing tensions between the Kurds in the north and the central authority. There are concerns that a push to sell crude oil to Kurdish markets from what is considered to be one of the last great unexplored oil regions in the world, could persuade Erbil to seek more independence from Baghdad. Blasts & killing fail to blow apart Kurdish chance in Syria
In Syria, a third bomb blast has reportedly rocked the city of iDLib, just hours after eight people were killed and dozens wounded in twin explosions there. The government and the opposition are blaming each other for orchestrating the attacks. The United Nations warns the ongoing violence threatens the peace plan it helped broker. The head of the expanding UN observer mission to Syria says the roadmap is futile, unless all sides observe a ceasefire. Meanwhile, Damascus is preparing to hold nationwide Parliamentary elections in just a week's time. But the US and its allies are still calling for regime change. Turkey clashes video: Police fight Kurdish protesters
Turkish police used water cannon, tear gas and baton charges to break up Kurdish demonstrations across the country on Sunday and one local politician died in the protests, a sign of rising tension ahead of the Kurdish New Year this week after authorities rejected Kurdish demands to celebrate it on Monday. Turkey's pro-Kurdish party and Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) armed militants have both called for large demonstrations for Newroz, the Kurdish New Year that begins on March 21, sensing the government, which has strongly backed Arab uprisings, may be vulnerable to pressure from street protests. Both the legal Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) and the PKK are demanding a level of autonomy for the mainly Kurdish southeast of the country. Kurdish refugees from Syria languish in Iraq
While focus is on the uprising in Syria which started almost a year ago, Syrian Kurds revolted years before. Riots in the mainly Kurdish city of Qamishli in 2004 were crushed by security forces. Rights groups say at least 30 people were killed in that crackdown. Thousands of Kurds crossed the border into Iraq and have been living as refugees since. Al Jazeera's Jane Arraf reports from a refugee camp in Moqableh in northern Iraq.

Ankara has said nothing, supposedly not wanting to strain relations with Tehran.The Iranian border patrol's most recent known victim was handed over to Turkish authorities in January. But Ankara has had little response to the captures and killings so far, turning a largely deaf ear to protests from relatives and human rights activists. Turkey imports more than one third of its oil and natural gas from Iran, so it likes to keep relations cosy.
